Niles girls beat Benton Harbor for second time in three days

BENTON HARBOR — For the second time in three days, the Niles girls basketball team defeated Benton Harbor in a non-conference contest.

The Vikings and Tigers made up a game Wednesday night in Niles before squaring Friday in Benton Harbor.

Niles (5-7) jumped out to a 33-14 halftime lead after the two teams were deadlocked at 10-10 after one quarter.

The Vikings led 39-21 heading into the final quarter.

Alycia Patterson scored a game-high 22 points to lead the Vikings, who also got five points from Lajan Mitchell and four points each from Mackenzie Bishop, Reese Davies and Alexis Rauch.

Benton Harbor was led by Joh’nae Poindexter’s 12 points. Ecstacy Pullen added 10 points.

Boys basketball

Host Benton Harbor put four players in double figures as it handed Niles with sixth consecutive loss Friday night.

Carlos Johnson, one of the top players in the country, scored a game-high 19 points to lead the Tigers to an easy 82-38 victory over the Vikings.

Dennie Brown added 15 points, Devan Nichols 11 and Shawn Hopkins 10.

Niles (3-8) trailed just 21-16 after one, but could not keep pace with Benton Harbor, which outscored the Vikings 61-22 over the final three quarters.

Austin Brookins had 10 points for the Vikings, who also got seven points from Chad Barton and six points from Robert Brown.
