NILES — The Niles District Library seeks to build a community of lifelong learners who want to make Niles their lifelong home. A library card is not required to participate in any programs. All programs are free.

Monday, Jan. 29

• 6 to 7 p.m. — Tween Game Night

The library is inviting tweens to participate in a new game night just for kids ages 9 to 12. There will be an Xbox, and board games out. As well as art and crafts supplies. Snacks provided.

• 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. — Is Human

Trafficking Happening Here?

Cathy from the Southwest Michigan Human Trafficking Task Force will be in the Community Room for a discussion on Human Trafficking.

Human Trafficking is the second largest criminal activity in the nation. Attendees of this presentation will walk away with warning signs and real-life suggestions as well as the helpline number to help combat this heinous crime.

• 7 to 8 p.m. — CDA Niles

Chemically Dependent Anonymous is a 12-step fellowship for anyone seeking freedom from drug and alcohol addiction. The people of CDA do not make distinctions in the recovery process based on any particular substance. The basis of the program is abstinence from all mood-changing and mind-altering chemicals, including street-type drugs, alcohol and unnecessary medication.

Tuesday, Jan. 30

• 10:30 a.m. — Passport Pals

The community is invited for a special storytime tour of the world. Each week, there will be books, songs, a craft and other surprises relating to the special country of the month.

• 12:30 to 2 p.m. — Primary Care Triple P

This class is for parents or caretakers who wish to learn a variety of parenting skills that will promote their child’s development and potential. RSVP is required. Call (269) 927-5622 to register.

• 3 to 4:30 p.m. — Triple P Teen Group

This group is suggested for parents or caretakers of teens ages 12 to 18. This group focuses on working with parents to assist in managing problem behavior, encouraging appropriate behavior, and dealing with risky behavior with teens. RSVP is required. Call (269) 927-5622 to register.

• 6 to 6:30 p.m. — Chips and

Chapters

This activity includes a read-aloud storytime. Every Tuesday, Ms. Tara will read aloud from a chapter book, while listeners eat chips and follow along. All ages are welcome.

Wednesday, Jan. 31

• Multiple times – Storytime day

Squealers (birth-18 months) at 9:30 a.m., squeakers (18 months-3 years) at 10 a.m., squigglers (18 months-5 years) at 10:30 a.m., story time (children ages 3+) at 11 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.

• 1 to 4 p.m. — Michigan Works/Kinexus

Talent Development Specialists will be available to help people register for unemployment, evaluate their strengths and skills, edit or help update a resume, sharpen interview skills and more.

• 7 to 8 p.m. — CDA Niles

Thursday, Feb. 1

• 10 a.m.  to 1 p.m. — The

Connection

As Berrien County’s Housing Resource Center, The Connection provides a centralized intake that works together with the consumer to rapidly re-house those who are homeless.

• 10 a.m. to noon — Special Edition: Arts & Crafts

The community is invited to make cloud dough. There will be a number coloring materials for participants to choose from, and Bob Ross or other artist channels will be on the screen for those who wish to observe rather than create.

• 10:30 and 1:30 p.m. — Storytime

Storytime features three books, a color song, and music and movement. The program will end with a hand stamp, coloring sheet and a craft.

• Noon to 12:15 p.m. — Special

Edition: Winter Reading Kickoff

The community is invited to a winter reading program. A closing party will take place Feb. 22.

• 1 to 4:30 p.m. — Mahjong

Volunteers are available weekly to teach people how to play Mahjong.

• 2 to 4 p.m. — All Ages Hangout

All ages and abilities are welcome to come hang out Thursday afternoons. There will be coffee and tea provided. Anyone is welcome to bring snacks to share.

• 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. — Niles

Community Gardens Meeting

• 6 to 7:30 p.m. — Teen Time

There will be games, books, and a place to study in the Teen Department. Snacks are provided.

Friday, Feb. 2

• 1 to 3 p.m. — Twisted Stitches

People may enjoy a cup of coffee or tea and chat while they work on their yarn or sewing project. Rookies are welcome. The teacher and a few loaner tools will help to get newcomers started.

Saturday, Feb. 3

• 10 a.m. to noon — Chess Club

Love to play chess? This group meets twice monthly to play, on the first and third Saturday, 10 a.m. to noon. The group welcomes all ages and abilities. Meet the group in the Youth Services Department for chess fun for all ages.

• 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. — Chess

Tournament

This event is a chess tourney for all members of the National Chess Federation. The event will have boards available for non-members as well. 3R, SWISS, G:45 Niles District Library. (10:30 start)

• 10:30 a.m. to noon- TreeClimbers Genealogy Group

Beginners are welcome. Additional selected dates are available for TreeClimbers to carry out their personal research, and/or assist newcomers as needed, however, all of the Niles District Library’s local history and genealogical materials are available during normal hours of operation.

• 11 a.m. to noon — Make-It-Take-It Valentines

Supplies needed to make a Valentine will be available. This activity is for youth ages 2 to 12.

• 1 to 2 p.m. — Love Stinks Party

This is an anti-Valentine’s Day party. There will be food, crafts and the opportunity to make Valentine cards for friends. This activity is for teens ages 12 to 19.

• 5:30 to 8 p.m. — Family Nerf Night

This family program is intended for families of children ages 12 and under. Nerf games will be played throughout the evening.

Those interested are asked to bring their own Nerf blaster. Melee weapons are not permitted. There are only a limited number of blasters that can be borrowed. NDL Nerf darts are provded at the event. Personal darts should be kept at one’s at home.

Registration is required upon arrival, along with the signing of a seasonal waiver (under 18 need a parent to sign), so plan to arrive early so that the games can begin at 6 p.m. when the library closes; doors also close at 6 p.m. Children under the age of 12 must have a parent or adult guardian with them for the duration of the event.

This event is limited to 100 participants. Participants are asked to re-register in order to attend by stopping by the information desk or by calling (269) 683-8545, ext. 112.
