Arthur Mahan Berkey, Jr., 89, of Cassopolis, died peacefully Thursday evening, Jan. 25, 2018, in Cass County Medical Care Facility.

He was born Oct. 7, 1928, to Arthur and Mary Lucile (Atkinson) Berkey, Sr. and was raised in Cassopolis.

He was a Cub Scout, a Boy Scout and worked three paper routes. He graduated from Cassopolis High School in 1947 and attended Southwestern Michigan College for two years.

Arthur worked at American Coach Company, then at Price and Meyer, and at various places as a repairman. He also worked as a real estate agent for a while until he retired.

Arthur will be greatly missed by family and friends. He is survived by cousins, Judith Ann Schick, of Marcellus, Tom Berkey, of West Virginia and Edward Atkinson, of Florida; and good friends, Richard and Mary Dussel, of Cassopolis, and Frank Starr, Sr., of Cassopolis.

Family and friends will gather from 10 to 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 31, 2018, in Connelly Chapel Wagner Family Funerals, 202 North Broadway St., Cassopolis.

Arthur will be laid to rest in Prospect Hill Cemetery in Cassopolis.
