Yamila (Mimi) Marie Scherer, 67, from Sister Lakes, died of natural causes on Nov. 1, 2017.
Mimi was born in Watervilet on Jan. 18, 1950, and was the daughter of John and Amelia (Lolin) Scherer. She had lived in Haslett, Michigan, for many years.
Her parents, John and Amelia Scherer, preceded Mimi in death.
She is survived by her daughters, who were the loves of her life, Mila (Eric) Frohriep and their children, Mia, Zoe, Libby, Margo and Colton; and Jessika (Kenneth) Graham and their daughter Hailey.; her brother, John (Joyce) Scherer, of Dowagiac; sisters, Sandra (Jack) Bortle of Athens, Ohio and Frances Morrow, of Kalamazoo, Michigan; and brother, Robert Scherer, of Paw Paw, Michigan. In addition, she is survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Mimi worked for many years as an occupational therapist for Lansing Public Schools, operated a private OT practice, was a traveling occupational therapist for some time and worked as an OT in other professional settings. She received a bachelor’s degree in occupational therapy from Western Michigan University in 1973, and specialized in sensory integration with children with autism.
Mimi loved music, gardening, reading and lifelong learning about holistic heath care.
According to her wishes, cremation has taken place. A private memorial service was on Nov. 23 with her family.
Mimi will be sorely missed by her daughters, grandchildren and siblings.
