Joseph “Les” Carroll Jr., 81, of South Bend, passed away peacefully on Friday, Jan. 19, 2018, at South Bend Hospice House, following a brief illness.

He was born on Dec. 11, 1936, in Ashland, Kentucky, to the late Joseph and Frances L. (Meade) Carroll.

After graduating high school, Les attended Georgia Tech.

On May 24, 1959, he wed Laura “Barrie” Smith at a ceremony in Smyrna, Georgia.

Les worked in the transportation/logistics industry for most of his life for several companies , including Bendix and Hover in the South Bend area. He enjoyed fishing, and loved Kentucky basketball, Notre Dame football, the Cubs and the Bears. Most of all, he loved and cherished his family.

Surviving Les are his children, Lisa (Bob) Croteau of Niles, Joe (Patty) Carroll of Granger, David Carroll of Sherman Oaks, California and Rob Carroll of South Bend; eight grandchildren; as well as four great-grandchildren.

Les’ family will gather to remember him privately, and ask that memorial contributions be directed to St. Joseph Regional Medical Center, 5215 Holy Cross Parkway, Mishawaka, IN 46545.
