Athlete Showcase: Brandywine’s Kennedy Byrd

Kennedy Byrd is a sophomore on the Brandywine girls basketball team.
What has been one of your greatest accomplishments as an athlete?
KB: Winning the softball championship for Michigan with my travel team.
What has been one of your biggest disappointments as an athlete?
KB: Losing districts last year.
Who is a “hero” in your life and why?
KB: My uncle Kris Goodman. He is the hardest working athlete I know.
When are you the most nervous while you are competing?
KB: Getting dressed or when I get to the gym.
Describe an embarrassing athletic moment.
KB: Missing a wide open layup or getting a three-second call.
How do you tend to work out/train when by yourself?
KB: I work on the skills I need to improve the most. I do a lot of reps.
What other sport would you like to compete in if you were not playing yours?
KB: Soccer.
Why are sports an important part of a high school experience?
KB: It exposes you to new people and friends.
How would you give away $50,000?
KB: I would make sure my family is ok and donate the rest.
If you could be the head coach of a team for a year, what team would you choose?
KB: Either the San Antonio Spurs or the Golden State Warriors.
If I did not play sports, I would…?
KB: Be in more academic clubs.
What is the most challenging thing for you to do in your sport?
KB: To be able to score for my team.
If you could change one rule about your sport, what would it be?
KB: No three-second violations.
What is the best compliment you have ever received?
KB: My work ethic.
What was the scariest thing you have had to do? Are you glad you did it?
KB: Guard Jayla Bibbs (of Buchanan) as a freshman. Yes, it made me better at defense.
What was the last thing you saw someone do that really impressed you?
KB: When the team scored 73 points against Saugatuck.
What is your favorite hobby? Why?
KB: Playing sports. I love the sports I play and the people I play with.
