Lake Michigan College moves into second place in Western Division

BENTON HARBOR — The Lake Michigan College men’s basketball team swept Glen Oaks Community College and Kellogg Community College to move into sole possession of second place in the Michigan Community College Athletic Association’s Western Division.

The Red Hawks routed the Vikings 90-69 Wednesday night after defeating the Bruins 79-57 on Monday.

Lake Michigan led 45-26 at halftime against Glen Oaks, but the Vikings cut the lead to six with less than seven minutes to play.

The Red Hawks used a 22-7 run to seal the victory.

James Smith (Chicago) led LMC with 22 points, while Malik Hall (Benton Harbor) had a double-double with 17 points and 11 rebounds.

Cassopolis’s Bryce Saxton finished with 10 points.

Against Kellogg, the Red Hawks took a 37-25 lead into the locker room at halftime and then built on that advantage in the final 20 minutes of play.

Smith had 22 points, three rebounds, an assist and a steal to lead LMC. Hall finished with 17 points and 11 rebounds.
