BUCHANAN — Host Buchanan nearly let a 53-38 lead get away in the final four minutes of its win over visiting Lakeshore Friday night.
In one of the few area basketball games to be played due to weather conditions, the Bucks defeated Lakeshore 55-51 in a non-conference boys basketball game.
Buchanan (3-3) trailed Lakeshore (3-2) 15-10 after one quarter, but outscored the Lancers 18-6 in the second quarter to take a 28-21 halftime lead.
The Bucks’ Austen Taylor completed a three-point play in the second quarter to put Buchanan ahead for good 19-17.
Lakeshore battled back in the third quarter, cutting the lead to 30-29 in the opening stages of the second half, but a 10-2 run by the Bucks allowed Buchanan to take a 42-34 advantage into the final quarter.
Leading by 15 points with 3:53 remaining, Lakeshore outscored the Bucks 13-2 down the stretch to make things interesting.
Taylor and Chris Young led a balanced Buchanan attack with 13 points each, while Carter Jeffries added 12 points and Isaiah Rimpson nine.
Dylan Clem was the lone Lancer to reach double figures as he finished with 11 points.
The Bucks are back on the court Tuesday when they travel to New Prairie, Indiana for a non-conference contest.
