Miss Edwardsburg names 2018 court

EDWARDSBURG — With a spotlight shining down on her, Edwardsburg High School student Amber Barnosky could not stop a flow of happy tears from falling down her face Saturday as a shimmering crown was placed atop her head.

“It was really surreal,” Barnosky said. “I started bawling. I’m still kind of taking it in.”

The Edwardsburg High School Performing Arts Center was filled with dazzling, sparkling dresses Saturday afternoon as many young women and men competed in the Miss Edwardsburg 2018 pageant, and Barnosky was named Miss Edwardsburg.

As the new Miss Edwardsburg, Barnosky said she could not be more excited to spend the next year on the Miss Edwardsburg court.

“It feels really great [to be named Miss Edwardsburg],” the 18-year-old said. “I’ve been in the program since I was really young. I even went out for Miss Edwardsburg last year and received second-runner up, and that was a really good experience, but it’s so amazing to be Miss Edwardsburg this year.”

Becoming Miss Edwardsburg is a dream come true for Barnosky, who said that she is grateful for everything the Miss Edwardsburg program has taught her and all the opportunities it has given her.

“Miss Edwardsburg teaches young girls that they can do whatever they put their minds to, whether it be becoming Miss America or just learning public speaking skills,” Barnosky said. “I’m proud to have been a part of that.”

Barnosky said she is most excited to participate in the Miss Blossomtime pageant in 2018 and spend more time with her court, adding that the Miss Blossomtime pageant and her stint as Miss Edwardsburg will help her learn more about the town she grew up in.

“I love [Edwardsburg] and the community aspect of it that has always supported me,” Barnosky said. “I think it’s amazing the way the community comes together during bad times and during good times. … I’m excited to learn more about where I’m from.”
