Dorothy Orlee Snow, 103, of Niles, Michigan, died peacefully at 6:25 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 8, 2017, at Oak Crest in Niles following an extended illness.

Her family is grateful to Jan and Ted Oles for the kind and capable care provided to Dorothy, and to her brother Jerry for his attention and care.

She was born on Oct. 28, 1914, in Mellott, Indiana, to Charles and Mamie (Eddington) Johnson, and came to Niles with her family as a child. She was graduated from Niles High School, and, as a young lady, was employed at Bendix in South Bend, Indiana, and at the former Niles plant of Simplicity Pattern Company. The family lived in western New York for more than 20 years, where she was employed as a nurse’s aide in Buffalo. After returning to Niles, she was employed at Memorial Hospital in South Bend.

Dorothy was a member of the Apostolic Tabernacle in Niles. She always enjoyed working outdoors and maintaining a flower and vegetable garden. In rural Buffalo, she and her husband bought a small farm which included several acres of lawn and gardens for her pleasure.

On March 26, 1949, in South Bend, she married Edward Alfred Snow, who preceded her in death on May 20, 1972. She was also preceded in death by her brothers, Dorrell Johnson, Charles Johnson, and Lee Johnson, and sisters Ellen Henderson and Claudine Schneider.

Surviving family includes her son, Ed Snow III of Beaverton, Oregon; her brother, Jerry Johnson of Niles; and many nieces and nephews.

The funeral service for Dorothy Snow will be at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Dec. 14, 2017, at the Halbritter-Wickens Funeral Home in Niles with Pastor Trent Avance of the Apostolic Tabernacle officiating. Committal will follow at Mission Hills.
