Lorene Shrout, 90, of Dowagiac, passed away on Saturday, Dec. 2, 2017.

A celebration of life service will take place at 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 7, at Clark Chapel, 405 Center St. in Dowagiac. Burial will follow the funeral service. Friends may visit with the family from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 6, 2017, at the funeral home. Memorial contributions in Lorene’s name may be made to the Cass County Cancer Services. Born April 4, 1927, in Monett, Arkansas, she was the daughter of Mack and Nellie (Bettis) Hobson. On Nov. 8, 1946, Lorene married the love of her life, Pete M. Shrout.

Lorene loved playing Aggravation and card games with her family. She also enjoyed visiting with her customers and friends at the Busy Bee Flea Market for many years. She was a great southern lady that will be missed by her family and friends.

Surviving Lorene are her husband of 71 years, Pete; son, Ronnie S. (Brenda) Shrout of Dowagiac; daughter Donna D. (Ronnie) Box of Hurricane Mills, Tennessee; sister Bonnie Meurer of Jonesboro, Arkansas; grandchildren Steve D. (Katherine) Shrout of Clarkston, Michigan, Jennifer E. Shrout of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Michael J. (Cheryl) Edington of Allegan, Michigan and Kevin W. Edington of Lafayette, Louisiana; and great-grandchildren Tyler and Luke Shrout and Allen and Matthew Edington.

Lorene was preceded in death by her parents; brothers Carl, Claude and Calvin Hobson; and sisters Ina, June, Marie and Doris.
