Edwardsburg improves to 2-0 with rout of Sturgis

EDWARDSBURG — Defending Wolverine Conference South Division champion Edwardsburg wasted little time proving it would be a factor again this season with a commanding 62-37 victory over visiting Sturgis Friday night.

The Eddies (2-0, 1-0 South) outscored Sturgis (0-1, 0-1 South) 35-14 in the first half and cruised home with the easy victory.

Edwardsburg grabbed a 17-5 first-quarter advantage and extended its lead to 21-points by the intermission.

Kaitlyn Zarycki scored 28 points to lead all scorers. Zarcyki has scored 63 points in the first two games for the Eddies, who host St. Joseph in a non-conference contest Tuesday night.

Abbey Krugh added 18 points for the Eddies, who also got five points from Alexa Markel and four points from Chloe Bartz. Krugh had four of Edwardsburg’s six 3-pointers.

De’Ashia Sanders led the Trojans with 12 points. She was the lone Sturgis player to reach double figures.
