Philip D. “Phil” Vanderboegh, 80, of Niles, passed away at home with his family by his side on Wednesday, Nov. 8, 2017.
He was born on Feb. 10, 1937 in Niles, to the late Harold H. and Hazel P. (Smith) Vanderboegh.
He was a lifetime resident of Niles. Philip served his country proudly and retired, after 20 years, from the U.S. Air Force in 1974, achieving the rank of Staff Sergeant and serving during Vietnam.
On Oct. 16, 1999, Philip married the love of his life, Wanda, at a ceremony in Osceola, Indiana.
He had a passion for restoring antique farm tractors.
Phil was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Ronald, Robert, Bruce, Danny and Larry Vanderboegh; and a sister, Kay Noble.
He is survived by his loving wife, Wanda Vanderboegh of Niles; stepdaughter, Kathy (Steve) Hummer; grandchildren, Katie (Jeff) Underly, Sara (Zach) Christman and Michael Hummer; stepson, Ed (Wanda) Walton; four daughters from his first marriage, Robin Gray, Tina Friedrich, Jackie Gurk and Pam Cochran; as well as many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He is also survived by a brother, David Vanderboegh; sister, Lynn (Gene) Spitzer; brother-in-law, Dick Noble; and a sister-in-law, Corinne Vanderboegh.
In keeping with Phil’s wishes, cremation has taken place and no public services will be hosted. An interment will be held at Mission Hills Memorial Gardens.
The family wishes to thank Caring Circle (Hospice at Home) as well as Memorial Hospital ninth and 11th floors for their care they provided.
