Roundup: 50th annual Turkey Trot Nov. 19 on SMC trails

The Dowagiac Union High School Athletic Department will host the 50th annual Turkey Trot at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 19 on the Roadrunner Trails.
Ron Gunn will direct the race that according to the Michigan Runner magazine is the oldest Turkey Trot in Michigan. The race is a fund raiser for the DUHS athletic department and will start at the Dowagiac Middle School.
This all trail event will include a 10k, a 5k and a kid’s fun run 1k. Participants may run or walk this course.
“This is an awesome venue for the event and is reminiscent of our earliest Thanksgiving” states the race director Ron Gunn.
Distinctive Laser carved wood awards, medals and ribbons will be awarded in 16 divisions and custom long sleeve tech shirts will be awarded to all finishers in the 10k and 5k.
Entry blanks may be picked up at Dowagiac High School, local fitness centers and running shoe stores or on line registration is available through CairnStoneAdventureTours.com.
Dowagiac Middle School is located at 57072 Riverside Drive.
McCloughlan to speak Nov. 13
STEVENSVILLE — Veteran coach, sports official and Fruit Belt Officials Association member Jim McCloughlan will be guest speaker at the FBOA’s next general meeting at 6:30 p.m. Nov. 13.
It is anticipated that Jim will speak on his experiences as a veteran of the Viet Nam war, as a long-time area coach and referee, and as a recently awarded Congressional Medal of Honor recipient.
This meeting will be held at Lakeshore Middle School, 1459 W. John Beers. The general public as well as all officials of the Fruit Belt Association are welcome to attend.
