Athlete Showcase: Dowagiac’s Edgar Bravo

Edgar Bravo is a junior on the Dowagiac soccer team.
What has been one of your greatest accomplishments as an athlete?
EB: Winning districts.
What has been one of your biggest disappointments as an athlete?
EB: Losing our invitational two years ago.
Who is a “hero” in your life and why?
EB: My dad, because he has sacrificed his time and money to be able to make me into the player that I am.
When are you the most nervous while you are competing?
EB: Right before the game starts.
Describe an embarrassing athletic moment.
EB: Mixing up my words back in eighth grade. I said I don’t knew, don’t ask me.
How do you tend to work out/train when by yourself?
EB: I train by myself every day at my house by getting some touches on the ball and practice shooting.
What other sport would you like to compete in if you were not playing yours?
EB: Track would most likely be the sport I would play other than soccer.
Why are sports an important part of a high school experience?
EB: You get to represent your school and community, make new friends, and become family.
How would you give away $50,000?
EB: I would give half the money to organizations that help children in need, and the rest would go to my parents because they deserve every penny for that they have done for me.
If you could be the head coach of a team for a year, what team would you choose?
EB: I would choose FC Barcelona for their fast, dynamic play, on and off the ball.
If I did not play sports, I would…?
EB: I would become a chef. I love to cook. I like to experiment with different types of food.
What is the most challenging thing for you to do in your sport?
EB: Being able to keep up with big, strong and fast players.
If you could change one rule about your sport, what would it be?
EB: The offside rule, but I know for sure it would backfire on me.
What is the best compliment you have ever received?
EB: My coaches telling me that I am back. I am back to playing like a player that a forward is scared of.
What was the scariest thing you have had to do? Are you glad you did it?
EB: Riding a rollercoaster. After the ride, I felt good and happy that I conquered my fear of riding one.
What was the last thing you saw someone do that really impressed you?
EB: My teammate Johnny Ruiz scoring the winning goals to move to the regional finals.
What is your favorite hobby? Why?
EB: Cooking. It is fun to cook. I like to eat and try different types of food from around the world.
