Roundup: Rangers win; Niles, Brandywine defeated

CASSOPOLIS — The Cassopolis soccer team recorded its second straight 8-0 victory as it blanked Eau Claire in Southwest 10 Conference action Wednesday.

The Rangers led 5-0 at halftime thanks to three goals by Kiambu Gary and one goal each from Josh Canterbury and Trenton Gless Jr.

Khantharee Ratsamy, Canterbury and Brett Williams scored goals for Cassopolis in the second half.

The Rangers are now 3-0 in the Southwest 10 after beating Bloomingdale, Marcellus and Eau Claire.

Niles soccer

Jose Vargas scored a pair of first-half goals at visiting Kalamazoo Loy Norrix blanked Niles 2-0 in SMAC non-divisional soccer Wednesday night.

Vargas scored in the 12th and 31st minutes to give the Knights a 2-0 lead at halftime.

Neither team was able to find the back of the net in the final 40 minutes of action.

“A tough loss for the Vikings in their first conference game of the season,” Niles coach Ryan Haines said. “Carless mistakes in key areas of the field proved to be our downfall this evening.”

Niles in back on the pitch Tuesday when they travel to Richland for another SMAC non-divisional match against Gull Lake.

Brandywine soccer

Visiting New Buffalo scored three goals in each half as it edged Brandywine 6-5 in BCS Athletic Conference soccer Wednesday.

Scoring goals for the Bobcats were Bryce Taberski with four and Gaige Ernsberger with one.
