Built in 1860 the Schock house became a hotel in 1908 and was later named the Sherman House, Smith Hotel and Rinehart Hotel. Horse-drawn carriages stopped as well as stage coaches. A war meal and a night’s rest were provided for travelers. The building later became a boarding house and apartments owned by Charles and Vera Pabreza. The Pabreza family donated the buildings to the Edwardsburg Historical Museum in 2000. (Photo courtesy of the Andrus collection)
