Nathaniel C. Casey, 31, of Mishawaka, Indiana, passed away at his home Wednesday, May 24, 2017.

Nate was born to Michael and Denise (Payne) Casey on June 26, 1985, in South Bend, Indiana.

After graduating from Niles High School in 2004, Nate joined the U.S. Army and served his country proudly during two tours in Iraq and Afghanistan. After Nate was discharged from the Army, he worked in security for Cook Nuclear Plant.

Nate was always easy to be around. His sense of humor brought many laughs to his family and friends and especially his nieces and nephews. He was an avid University of Michigan fan and enjoyed playing tennis and time spent outdoors on quiet walks.

He was preceded in passing by his maternal grandparents, Harold “Pete” and Catherine Payne; his paternal grandmother, Mary Lee Casey; and a cousin, Aaron Payne.

He is survived by his father, Michael Casey of Arkansas; his mother, Denise Casey of Niles; his children, Alissa and Hudson Casey; his paternal grandfather, Faber Casey of Arkansas; his siblings, Alisha (Jared) Reed of Niles, Anissa (Joshua) Martin of Waxahachie, Texas, Angela (Shawn) Fant of South Bend and Gabe Casey of Chicago; 10 nieces and nephews; and a host of aunts, uncles and cousins.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday, May 27, 2017, at Brown Funeral Home in Niles. Funeral services for Nate will be at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, May 28, 2017, at Summit Church, 1700 W. River Road, Niles. His family will gather for private committal services in Ft. Custer National Cemetery, with full military honors.
