Oswald Louis “Bud” Vecellio, 94, passed away Thursday, March 23, 2017, after a brief illness.
He was born Feb. 13, 1923, in Norway, Michigan.
He attended Marquette University, graduated from Northern Michigan University and earned a master’s degree from University of Michigan. He served in the U.S. Navy as a medic on the USS O’Brien.
In 1946, he married Josephine Izzo. She survives.
Most of his career was as a teacher and a coach in St. Ignace, Michigan, during 1950s and 1960s. He then became principal and served in that capacity in St. Ignace and at Brandywine in Niles. He then served as dean of students at Southwestern Michigan College in Dowagiac for several years.
He was an active member of the Catholic church and served in numerous capacities, including the Knights of Columbus.
Bud has three children: Patty (Herb) Mais, Michael (Diane) and Vicki (Bill) Barlow, who all resided with him in Florida. As a family, they were able to share many happy, memorable years.
Bud was an avid golfer and fisherman. He enjoyed life to the fullest, and enjoyed music, friends and family.
Besides immediate family, he is survived by six grandchildren; 16 (and one half) great-grandchildren; and a sister, Mary Ann Cerasoli. He is remembered by many other family and a multitude of friends.
