An assembly to celebrate the money raised by Howard Elementary students for the American Heart Association will take place starting at 11 a.m. Friday at the school, located at 2788 Mannix St.
The assembly will not only feature awards and medallions awarded to top donation collectors and the top donation collecting class, but the closing of the assembly will allow heart heroes, students who raised or donated more than $15, to take turns spraying a third-grade teacher with silly string.
Jump Rope for Heart is co-sponsored by the American Heart Association and the American Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance. Students at Howard Elementary School helped to fight heart disease and stroke, the nation’s number one and number four killers, respectively, by participating in the school’s 10th annual Jump Rope for Heart event.
During the week of March 20 to 24, students collected donations from the community for the American Heart Association.
During the weeklong initiative, stations were set up during gym classes for students to monitor their pulse rates, listen to their own heart and read heart facts that were posted near each activity. The entire community was encouraged to jump in and donate to save lives. The money raised will be used for heart and stroke research and community and educational programs for the community’s youth.
