Gloria Jean Roush, 80, of Cassopolis, died peacefully at home Saturday morning, March 11, 2017, in the comfort of her family’s presence. She died just two weeks before her 81st birthday, and four days prior to her 64th wedding anniversary.
She was born March 25, 1936, in Atwood, Indiana, the youngest of three daughters born to Rulo and Marie (Leininger) Harman.
She married James Dale Roush on March 14, 1953, in Plymouth, Indiana. He survives.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Juanita Davis.
Gloria Jean and James met in their home town of Plymouth when she was 8 years old and he was 10. They started dating when she was 15 and Gloria Jean soon became the love of James’ life. She was a ticket taker at the movie theater in Plymouth. They married on a Saturday, 11 days before her 18th birthday, and he went back to work the following Monday.
Gloria Jean was a proud homemaker, raising their four sons, including being a den mother for her two oldest boys. She was a crafter who enjoyed restoring furniture and decorating her home. She maintained an herb garden. She also served as the secretary for the Cassopolis Order of the Eastern Star. Gloria Jean’s family is especially proud of her learning to drive at the age of 65 so that she could provide the necessary care for her husband, James.
Gloria Jean will be greatly missed by family and friends. She is survived by her husband of more than 63 years, James Roush; four sons, Steve (Darlene) Roush, Michael (Roxanne) Roush, Bryan (Tina) Roush and Craig (Dawn Handshaw) Roush; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and one sister, Suzanne Servis.
Family and friends will gather from 10 a.m. Thursday, March 16, 2017, until the time of service at noon at First Church of God, 21083 Spencer Road (just south of M-60), Cassopolis, with Pastor Greg Compton officiating.
Mrs. Roush will be laid to rest in Prospect Hill Cemetery in Cassopolis.
