Boys roundup: Bobcats suffer first loss

PARCHMENT — All good things must come to an end.

For the Brandywine boys basketball team the end of its school record 17-game winning streak to start a season came to an end in overtime.

The Panthers’ Darrion Turner hit a pull-up jumper inside the lane at the buzzer to give host Parchment a 65-64 win over the Bobcats Friday night.

Hunter Slaughter had just given Brandywine a 64-63 lead with 5.6 seconds left in the back-and-forth BCS Red Division contest.

The Panthers led much of the first half and took a 33-30 lead into the third quarter.

The Bobcats (17-1, 8-1 BCS Red) outscored Parchment 17-14 in the third quarter to tie the score at 47-47 heading into the final eight minutes of regulation.

Both teams scored 12 points in the final quarter, forcing the extra session.

Slaughter finished with 20 points to lead Brandywine.

Jaden Croom and Brady Duval scored 15 and 13 points respectively.

Turner led all scores with 26 points for the Panthers.

Brandywine will travel to Comstock for another BCS Red Division contest Thursday night.

Niles at St. Joseph

ST. JOSEPH — Host St. Joseph outscored Niles 32-29 in the second half to hold on for a 48-41 SMAC West Division boys basketball victory Friday night.

The Vikings led 6-5 after one quarter, but trailed 16-12 at halftime.

Niles reclaimed the lead 29-28 heading into the fourth quarter, but was unable to hold on.

Robert Brown had 10 points to lead the Vikings, who also got eight points from Bryce Lake.

Cade Shimulunas was the only player for St. Joseph in double figures as he scored 13 points.
