Cultural Academic Student Exchange, an organization specializing in foreign exchange student placement, is looking to place foreign exchange students in Berrien and Cass counties, and is looking for volunteer host families to sign up for fall arrivals.
In particular, the program is seeking a host home for a 16-year-old student from Germany who enjoys skiing, volleyball, tennis and travel. The student has expressed a true interest in attending an academic school year in the U.S, and being a participating member of an American family.
According to Sandra Storer, the local representative, host families are asked to provide room, board and perhaps a measure of cultural guidance. In return, the entire family will gain a greater exposure to a foreign culture vastly different from its own.
“This is a huge advantage for our students to experience the world through a different lens,” Storer said.
Once vetted, host families may review their newly ‘adopted’ son or daughter’s extensive application, that includes photo collages, health records, academic transcripts and biographical essays. According to Storer, these well screened, personable students have expressed a genuine desire to learn about our country through living as a part of an American family and attending an American high school.
All participants are fully insured, fluent in English and are furnished with their own spending money.
