John Norman Young, 74, of Niles, passed to his rest Monday, Jan. 23, 2017, at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center in Mishawaka, Indiana, after an illness.
He was born May 10, 1942, in Vandalia, the son of Durell and Ethel (Kiner) Young. He has lived in Cass and Berrien counties all of his life.
John was a hard-working man. He was the former owner of Classic Cabinets of Edwardsburg and later was a truck driver, known as “Trucker John.” He enjoyed being outdoors and the time he spent fishing.
John was married Feb. 19, 1972, in Marathon, Florida, to Margaret K. Westgate.

She survives with their daughter, Alison (David) Welker of Goshen, Indiana, and three grandchildren, Jessica Sisk, Rebecca (Michael) Taylor and Jarod Blankenship. There are three great-grandchildren: Airi Ann Taylor, Keihlen John Wayne Taylor and Skylah Mae Sisk. John’s grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the best part of his life. They could always make each other smile. He also has two sisters, Lois Gwilt of Ocala, Florida, and Marjorie (Arthur) Horner of Niles, and a brother, Michael Young.
Family who have passed are his parents and a brother, Durell Jr.
Family and friends may gather from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 29, 2017, at Paul E. Mayhew Funeral Home, 26863 W. Main St., Edwardsburg. A service of remembrance will begin at 4 p.m. Sunday, with the Rev. Martha Cooper, pastor of Cassopolis Lord’s House, officiating. Cremation has taken place. At the close of the service the U.S. Air Force Honor Guard will play taps and fold the flag.
