Athlete Showcase: Edwardsburg’s Kaitlyn Zarycki

Kaitlyn Zarycki is a sophomore on the Edwardsburg girls basketball team.
What has been a hardship in your life?
KZ: A hardship in my life was when my mom got diagnosed with breast cancer.
Who is a “hero” in your life and why?
KZ: My mom is my hero, because she is the strongest person I know and she has taught me to be grateful for what I have and has taught me to be humble.
When are you the most nervous while you are competing?
KZ: I am most nervous when the game is close and we have very little time left.
Describe an embarrassing athletic moment.
KZ: I was running backwards and I fell really hard and hurt my tailbone.
How do you tend to work out/train when by yourself?
KZ: I usually lift weights with my brother and then I shoot on the shooting machine.
What other sport would you like to compete in if you were not playing yours?
KZ: I would like to compete in soccer.
Why are sports an important part of a high school experience?
KZ: They are a good experience because you can make new friends and overcome new experiences.
How would you give away $50,000?
KZ: I would give it to a cancer foundation.
If you could be the head coach of a team for a year, what team would you choose?
KZ: I would be a head coach for Edwardsburg varsity girls basketball team.
If I did not play sports, I would…?
KZ: Focus way more than I do on school.
What is the most challenging thing for you to do in your sport?
KZ: The most challenging thing is making a certain amount of shots in a certain amount of time.
If you could change one rule about your sport, what would it be?
KZ: I would change that you can have seven fouls instead of five.
What is the best compliment you have ever received?
KZ: “You are a great player. You are going to do big things.”
What was the last thing you saw someone do that really impressed you?
KZ: When Clay Thompson scored 60 points in 24 minutes for Golden State.
What is your favorite hobby? Why?
KZ: Basketball, because I am in love with the sport and I enjoy to play it.
