A pair of weekend victories extended Brandywine’s record-setting start to the season.
The Bobcats held off an athletic Comstock team 59-56 in BCS Red Division action Friday night before knocking off Coloma 62-54 in non-conference action Saturday.
The win over the Comets gave Brandywine coach Nathan Knapp his 100th career victory. Knapp is only the second Brandywine coach to reach the century mark in career victories.
Despite hitting just 9-of-33 attempts from beyond the 3-point line, the Bobcats were able to hold off the Colts.
After a quick start, the game stayed close throughout, but the Bobcats trailed just one time in the third quarter before reclaiming the momentum and pulling out the victory.
“They scouted us really well,” Knapp said of Comstock’s game plan. “They tried to take Brady (Duval) and Hunter (Slaughter) away from us. We got the ball in the high post and we were settling in the first half. In the second half we started to attack from the high post.”
After a slow start, Slaughter heated up in the second half and ended up with 17 points, including five 3-pointers. Duval finished with 12 points, all coming from beyond the arc.
Jaden Croom led the Bobcats with 18 points.
Saturday at Coloma, Brandywine and the Comets were deadlocked at 9-9 after one, but the Bobcats outscored Coloma 52-45 over the final three quarters to pick up the victory.
Vinny Peel had 20 points, while Nate Kemp finished with 10 points.
On Thursday night, the Brandywine girls basketball team had its 83-game home court winning streak snapped by visiting Comstock.
The Colts outscored the Bobcats 15-6 in the fourth quarter to snap the winning streak with a 46-38 BCS Red Division victory.
Zakiyyah Abdullah had 16 points for the Bobcats and was the only player to reach double figures.
Nicle Sachman and Mia Stella each had six points for Brandywine, which defeated Coloma 39-31 Saturday.
