Volinia Outcomes School hosted its Emergency Services Career Day last Friday.

Students learned first hand from members of the Wayne Township and Dowagiac fire departments about being a firefighter, getting a chance to don the turnout gear and complete a search and rescue in the gym in the dark.

Also on hand were officers with the Cass County Sheriff’s Department, who taught students about distracted driving, using fatal vision goggles and CSI, as well getting to meet two K-9 Units.

The surprise of the day came when a Medflight Helicopter landed behind the school.

Volinia Outcomes School is a school of choice for alternative schools.  Students attended from Cassopolis, Decatur, Dowagiac, Edwardsburg and Marcellus, though the school is open for students between the ages of 14 and 20 years old.

Graduates of the program get a high school diploma and gain hands-on experience.
