Athlete Showcase: Niles’ Cameron Canniff

Cameron Canniff is a senior on the Niles football team.
What has been one of your greatest accomplishments as an athlete?
CC: Starting out 3-0 in football this year.
What has been one of your biggest disappointments as an athlete?
CC: Losing to Battle Creek Central with only a few seconds left in the fourth.
What has been a hardship in your life?
CC: My great-grandmother passing away last winter.
Who is a “hero” in your life and why?
CC: My mom, because she supports me and does anything for me.
When are you the most nervous while you are competing?
CC: Right before the game when the team prays.
Describe an embarrassing athletic moment.
CC: Tripping over my feet while trying to run.
How do you tend to work out/train when by yourself?
CC: I try to go to the YMCA when I can. I also go for runs around Niles.
What other sport would you like to compete in if you were not playing yours?
CC: Tennis.
Why are sports an important part of a high school experience?
CC: They teach you how to be responsible and teach you respect.
How would you give away $50,000?
CC: Donate it to people in need.
If you could be the head coach of a team for a year, what team would you choose?
CC: Michigan Wolverines.
If I did not play sports, I would…?
CC: Play more video games.
What is the most challenging thing for you to do in your sport?
CC: Going through summer workouts and two-a-days for football.
If you could change one rule about your sport, what would it be?
CC: The block in the back rule.
What is the best compliment you have ever received?
CC: That I’m a hard worker and a good person.
What was the scariest thing you have had to do? Are you glad you did it?
CC: Going up against senior players while I was a freshman. I’m glad because it gave me confidence.
What was the last thing you saw someone do that really impressed you?
CC: Jim Harbaugh winning 78-0 against Rutgers.
What is your favorite hobby? Why?
CC: Playing sports with my buds. It’s fun to do out on the field with your closest friends.
