Michigan’s information technology resources received not one — but three — top honors from two of the nation’s premiere IT groups.
Michigan earned its fourth consecutive A grade in the Digital States Survey, conducted by the Center for Digital Government. The state also took first place in cybersecurity and collaboration categories in the annual awards competition sponsored by the National Association of State Chief Information Officers.
All three awards were announced Monday, Sept. 19, at the NASCIO annual meeting.
“We live in a connected society where Michiganders expect instant access to information,” Gov. Rick Snyder said. “These awards recognize our effort to put state services at their fingertips.”
The biennial Digital States Survey evaluates how states use technology to improve processes and serve citizens. States receive a letter grade based on how effectively IT supports priorities and policies, saves money, provides benefits, offers solutions and enables collaboration.
The NASCIO awards honor states that demonstrate innovation and excellence in the use of information technology. The cybersecurity award recognizes Michigan’s Cyber Disruption Response Plan, which outlines Michigan’s response framework related to cyber disruptions. The collaboration honor recognizes Michigan’s work to develop a cloud-based, stand-alone Medicaid management information system that can be used by other states. Before development of this new platform, each state had to build its own costly Medicaid IT system.
