DUHS volleyball team wins Eau Claire title

EAU CLAIRE — The Dowagiac varsity volleyball team captured the Eau Claire Invitational Saturday by defeated Berrien Springs in three sets.
The Chieftains reached the finals by beating Bloomingdale 25-16 and 25-9, splitting with Lawrence 25-18 and 18-25 and defeating Howardsville Christian 25-13 and 25-8.
In the semifinals, Dowagiac defeated host Eau Claire 26-24 and 25-14.
Against the Shamrocks, Dowagiac dropped the opening set 25-20, but rebounded to win 25-18 and 17-15 to claim the championship.
Taylor Hulett had 23 kills, 13 aces, 11 digs and three blocks for the Chieftains, who also got 11 kills and 11 digs from Amiyah Smith.
Natalie Davis finished the day with 23 aces and 34 digs. Kassidy Binns had 13 aces and 84 assists.
On Thursday, the Chieftains dropped a Wolverine Conference match to host Three Rivers in four sets.
The Wildcats defeated Dowagiac 25-19, 25-19, 27-29 and 25-20.
Kelsey Crocker and Hulett both finished with seven kills, while Davis ha 19 digs and six aces.
Hulett and Shelby Jackson both finished with 12 digs, while Hannah Whitaker added 10 digs. Froelich and Smith both had four blocks assists.
Dowagiac is back on the road Thursday as it heads to Allegan for another Wolverine Conference match.
