In support of Earth Day, the Edwardsburg Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD) volunteered their time and energy to help clean up Kraus Park recently.

The students worked for several hours and removed bags of garbage from the park.

“Students involved in SADD have volunteered in many activities within our school district and our community that promote positive peer activities for high school students,” said Nina Dickerson, SADD sponsor. “A few other events that students have participated in include our annual Spook-A-thon, Safe Schools week and the Edwardsburg Fire Department’s Breakfast with Santa.”

The students who participated in the park clean up were Emma Nelson, Marissa Moore, Sarah Shafer, Barbara Reese (SADD president), Jeremiah Wilson, Sloan Moore, Katie McAnarney and Kendra Wilkinson.

Jerry Marchetti, Ontwa Township Trustee, was pleased with the work the SADD students did.

“Kraus Park was in need of a major cleanup after the winter months,” Marchetti said. “We had eight Edwardsburg High School students in the SADD program who volunteered their time for two to three hours picking up bag after bag of trash. They came to work and by the end of the three hours had enough trash bags to fill the bed of the Edwardsburg maintenance truck, which picked up and delivered the trash to Ontwa Township during the spring trash day event. …

“One of the students even brought a flat of flowers to plant in the park. Their caring for cleaning up the park was very much appreciated and needed.”
