KALAMAZOO — Visiting Niles used solid pitching and timely hitting to sweep a SMAC softball doubleheader from Kalamazoo Central Monday.

The Vikings defeated the Maroon Giants 5-1 in the first game and 11-0 in the nightcap, which lasted just five innings.

“It was nice to be on the winning side of a couple tonight,” Niles coach Rick McKeel said. “I thought our pitchers Brooke Timm and Hannah Albright threw very well. Caitlin Daly called exceptional games and did a nice job behind the plate. We played error free ball tonight, which we needed and took advantage of their miscues. The girls really needed this. I’m hopeful we can take this to Gull Lake tomorrow (Tuesday) night.”

Timm scattered five hits while striking out seven and walking just one.

Niles finished with 11 hits, including doubles by Aynslee Myer, Michelle Crouch and Taylor Gibson.

Crouch was 3-for-4 with a pair of RBIs. Gibson and Morgan Altergott both had a pair of hits.

Albright tossed a one-hitter with four strikeouts in the second game for the Vikings.

Niles had 11 hits, including a 4-for-4 performance from Timm, which included three doubles and five RBIs.

Tegan Bays singled and doubled to drive in a run, while Caitlin Daly singled and doubled.
