Boston performs at Four Winds New Buffalo

It has been 40 years since Boston released its self-titled debut album.

But you would not be able to tell from the performance it put on in front of a sold out crowd at the Silver Creek Event Center at Four Winds Casino in New Buffalo Saturday night.

The line up may have changed in those 40 years, but Boston is still cranking out the rock-n-roll.

Hits like “More Than a Feeling,” “Foreplay/Long Time,” “Piece of Mind,” “Don’t Look Back” and the classic rock ballad “Amanda” had the crowd on its feet and singing along time after time.

Founding member Tom Scholz is a guitar wizard and although at times the solos are a bit over indulgent, they are pure Boston.

No group has ever been able to capture that signature sound of the band, which has sold more than 75 million albums worldwide.

The current line up of Scholz, Gary Pihl, Curley Smith, Tommy DeCarlo, Tracy Ferrie and Beth Cohen may even be better than the original group, which included lead singer and guitarist Brad Delp, who was the only other person Epic Records signed when Boston inked its first record deal.

Delp commited suicide in 2007.

An added bonus for area music fans was bassist Ferrie, who hails from Elkhart, Indiana. Ferrie is a former member of the Christian metal band Stryper.

Boston fans were not only treated to great songs, but a stunning light show and the best use of the two large video boards at Silver Creek Event Center, which provided those in attendance a true multimedia platform.
