Jessie LaVera Pollock, 91, of Niles, Michigan, died on Saturday, May 21, 2016, at her home following an extended illness.

She was born Aug. 16, 1924, in Nappanee, Indiana to Hubert Hue and Goldie Ethel (Kronk) McDonald. Jessie was a graduate of Niles Schools and attended some college courses at Southwest Michigan College. She was retired from Simplicity Pattern Company in Niles after over 45 years of service.

In retirement, Jessie was employed at the Stat Co. in Mishawaka, Indiana and at Rowley’s Family Shoe Store in Niles, and Starz Academy in Granger, Indiana. She also worked at Barron Lake Beach, and took a second retirement from the offices of Howard Township.

On Nov. 27, 1946, in Niles she married Edward Pollock with whom she celebrated the remarkable 67th anniversary of their wedding before his passing on Aug. 27, 2014.

Surviving family includes their daughter, Sharon (Carl) Burger of Niles; grandsons, Randy (Pearl) Burger, Scott (Beth) Burger, and Chad (Kim) Burger; great-grandchildren Nick Burger, Melissa (Brian) Albright, Mindy Burger, Carlee Burger, Conrad Burger, Paige Burger, and Logan Burger; great-great-grandchildren Paige, Austin, Jonathan, Alex, and Caroline; and several nieces and nephews and one sister, Dorothy Schneck of Niles.

The funeral service for Jessie LaVera Pollock will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, May 26, 2016 at the Grace United Methodist Church in Niles with the Rev. Dr. Tony Tomasino of the church officiating. Committal will follow at the graveside at Mission Hills, Niles.

The family will receive relatives and friends at the Halbritter Funeral Home in Niles on Wednesday from 6 until 8 p.m. Contributions in memory of Jessie Pollock may be made to the Grace United Methodist Church Building Fund; or to the Animal Service League of Dowagiac.
