In a season that has not seen much success, Dowagiac’s Grace Younger could wind up with a state record for saves.

The Chieftains soccer team was unable to pick up a victory against visiting Coloma Friday night, falling 2-1 in a penalty kick shootout to the Comets.

Coloma led 1-0 at halftime on a goal by Alyssa Bahr in the fifth minute.

Dowagiac continued to trail by a single goal until the 76th minute when Anne Zebell scored to tie the score.

The coaches decided to go to a shoot out in order to get prepared for the upcoming state tournament.

Younger finished the match with 12 more saves and now has 223 on the season.

She is 47 saves away from second place and 74 away from the state record.

The Chieftains wrap up their Wolverine Conference season today by hosting Paw Paw at 5 p.m.
