Bobcats bounce back to split with Grace Christian

After dropping the opener to Watervliet Grace Christian 6-4, Brandywine used a 20-hit explosion in the nightcap to earn a split in non-conference softball Friday.

The Bobcats rallied for a 16-8 win in the second game as they improved to 11-15 on the season.

In the first game, Grace (18-5) scored four runs in the fourth inning to edge Brandywine.

Makenna Hartline tripled, while Sydney Carlson was 2-for-3 with an RBI.

In the second game, Destiny Bennett scatted 11 hits to earn the victory for the Bobcats.

Brandywine’s offensive attack was led by Hartline, who was 4-for-5 with a double, home run and an RBI.

Carlson and Grace Polomcak were also 4-for-5. Polomcak doubled and drove in five runs, while Carlson added an RBI.

Bennett was 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI. Lexi Kwieran drove in a pair of runs for Brandywine.

 

Niles softball

A four-run fourth inning propelled visiting Mishawaka Marian to a 7-3 in over Niles in non-conference softball play Thursday.

The Vikings led 2-0 after scoring twice in the bottom of the second inning.

Marian responded with four runs in the third inning and then added a run in the fourth and two in the seventh to cap the scoring.

Niles finished with eight hits, including doubles by Michelle Crouch and Taylor Gibson.

Lizzie Bollinger doubled and Brooke Stolz homered for the Knights.
