Charles L. “Chuck” Sampson, 81, of Cassopolis, Michigan, left this life on Tuesday, May 17, 2016, at Memorial Hospital in South Bend, Indiana.

A Celebration of Life Service will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, May 25, 2016, at Pleasant View Church of Christ, 60550 Crooked Creek Road, in Cassopolis, Michigan with Pastor Jeff Oliver officiating. Burial will follow at Mission Hills Memorial Gardens in Niles. Friends may visit from 11 a.m. until the time of service at the church. Memorials may be made to American Lung Association, 55 W. Chuck was born to Oscar & Blanche (Dudley) Sampson on March 25, 1935 in Mishawaka, Indiana. On July 14, 1960, he married Dora M. Hunt in Cassopolis, Michigan. Chuck retired from Grand Trunk Western Railroad “CN” after 28 years of employment. He raced stock car #79 until 1969, he continued with his love of racing by watching Nascar every week, especially the late Dale Earnhardt Sr., Chuck and his close cousin Raymond “Butch” Dings shared many phone conversations about the outcome of the weekly race.

Chuck is survived by his wife Dora: his children, Bonnie Lou (Eric) Cryst of Travers City, Dorrena (Mark) Carpenter of Dowagiac, Denalda M. (Antonio) Tamayo of Elkhart, VeronicaM. (Jim) Conrad of Niles and Charles L. (Melissa Miller) Sampson II of Cassopolis; twenty three grandchildren; twenty four great-grandchildren and a cousin, Raymond “Butch” Dings of Holland, Michigan.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Lester Sampson; sisters, Ethel Smith & Bonnie Valdes; his son David Toxel and daughter Pamela Sampson.
