OTSEGO — The final score may read Otsego 6, Dowagiac 0, but for Chieftain coach Ryan Haines the night was not a total loss.

The Bulldogs are undefeated in Wolverine Conference play, while Dowagiac has yet to win a single league contest and only have two victories on their resume.

In previous seasons, the Bulldogs have scored eight or more goals and had the matches end under the mercy rule.

The Bulldogs led 4-0 at halftime on a pair of Gracie Verhage goals. Dowagiac also had an own goal in the opening 40 minutes.

Verhage picked up her third goal in the second half, while Hannah Gagneur added a goal and two assists in the match.

Grace Younger and Mara Nelson combined to make 12 saves. Younger had 11 of those.

The Chieftains did not get a shot on goal against Otsego.

“Now we look forward to Friday night’s game against Coloma,” Haines said. That night we honor our three seniors for Senior Night and also host our first youth soccer night. Should be an excellent Friday. The ladies and I are looking forward to it.”
