Athlete Showcase: Dowagiac’s Kaleb Detwiler

Kaleb Detwiler is a junior on the Dowagiac track team.

 

What has been one of your greatest

accomplishments as an athlete?

KD: Winning the MVP award for wrestling my freshman year.

What has been one of your biggest

disappointments as an athlete?

KD: Not making it out of districts this year in wrestling.

What has been a hardship in your life?

KD: Losing my grandpa.

Who is a “hero” in your life and why?

KD: My dad. He always encourages me to be the best I can be.

When are you the most nervous while you are competing?

KD: Competing in dual meets, because the team is counting on me.

Describe an embarrassing athletic moment.

KD: Pulling a muscle during a race.

How do you tend to workout/train when by yourself?

KD: Weight lift and run.

What other sport would you like to compete in if you were not playing yours?

KD: Baseball.

Why are sports an important part of the high school experience?

KD: They help keep my grades up.

How would you give away $50,000?

KD: Wounded veterans.

If you could be the head coach of a team for a year, what team would you choose?

KD: The track team.

If I did not play sports, I would…?

KD: Focus more on my grades.

What is the most challenging thing for you to do in your sport?

KD: Breaking a five-minute mile.

If you could change one rule about your sport, what would it be?

KD: Be allowed to step on the line.

What is the best compliment you have ever received?

KD: You are a fast runner.

What was the scariest thing you have had to do? Are you glad you did it?

KD: Running at regionals my sophomore year, Yes it motivated me.

What was the last thing you saw someone do that really impressed you?

KD: I saw somebody run a 4:35 minute mile.

What is your favorite hobby? Why?

KD: Fishing. You can do it whenever.
