Vikings, Bucks advance in conference tournaments

The Niles soccer team blanked visiting Battle Creek Central to advance to the second round of the SMAC Tournament Monday.

The Vikings got two goals each from Jaycee Myer and Chelsea Best en route to defeating the Bearcats 7-0.

Niles will now travel to Kalamazoo Central for a 6:45 p.m. match today.

Besides Myer and Best, the Vikings also got goals from Hannah Beckwith, Emily Gainea and Hailey Rager.

Dayleigh Miller had a pair of assists for Niles, which also got assists from Best and Jenny Walters.

 

BCS soccer tournament

Buchanan’s Erica Mitchell set a new school record for goals in a single season as she scored four in a 8-0 win over New Buffalo in BCS Athletic Conference action Monday.

Mitchell now has 28 goals to surpass the school record of 25 held by Morgan French.

Also scoring for the Bucks against the Rangers were Cora Schau, Kristin Clark, Jasmine Dougherty and Kassidy Koeningshof.

Buchanan advances to the second round of the conference tournament at Bridgman at 5 p.m. today.
