Brandywine improves to 17-8

The Brandywine baseball team has fashioned a 17-8 overall record as it heads into the home stretch of the 2016 season.

After dropped a pair of one-run games to BCS Athletic Conference foe Parchment Wednesday, the Bobcats rebounded to beat perennial state power Decatur 4-2 Friday.

In beating the Raiders under the lights, Brandywine scored two runs in the second and then single runs in the fifth and seventh innings.

The Bobcats finished with nine hits, including two by Joe Covyeou and doubles by Jeshua Wiese and Cole Searles.

Searles also picked up the win on the mound has he went the distance tossing a two-hitter with 10 strikeouts and just one walk.

Against Parchment, Brandywine was defeated 4-2 and 2-1 in a battle of two of the BCS’ best teams.

The Bobcats finished the doubleheader with just 11 hits, including a double by Chandler Plew.

Toby Fox and Mark Conrad both pitched well in going the distance.

Niles baseball

The Niles baseball team dropped to 12-7 following a pair of SMAC West Division losses to host St. Joseph Wednesday.

The Bears edged the Vikings 2-0 and 5-4 in a game that lasted 11 innings.

Niles managed just four hits in the opening game, all singles.

In the nightcap, St. Joseph scored a run in the bottom of the 11th to pull out the victory.

Niles finished with eight hits, including two each by Jakob Huffman and Austin Curran. Cody Glick drove in a pair of runs.
