Audiences at the Southwestern Michigan College theater spent the entire evening in laughter Wednesday, as Appalachian storyteller Michael Reno Harrell told some tales and sung some songs during the Dogwood Fine Arts Festival’s annual storyteller event.

More than 100 were attendance that evening as Harrell entertained audiences with stories and songs about his life, from experiences dealing with his wife getting rid of all his old things to stories about listening to his grandfather’s advice while growing up.

The storyteller event was once again sponsored by Securit Metal Products. The 25th annual Dogwood Festival wraps up on May 15, with a concert at SMC by the MSU Professors of Jazz at 7:30 p.m. Friday and a presentation by Dowagiac-native artist Rick Herter at the local museum at 7 p.m. Saturday. For information or tickets, people can contact the festival office at (866) 490-2847.
