Niles High announces top 10 of Class of 2016

Niles High School has released a list of students from the 2016 graduating class who earned the 10 best grade point averages. They are:

1. Devin Kuemin

Kuemin is the son of Duane Kuemin and Michelle Fletcher. He has been a member of both Key Club and Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD). He has played tennis and basketball for Niles High School. He will attend Western Michigan University in the fall, pursuing a degree in sports management.

2. Kelsey Barton

Barton is the daughter of Dan and Kelly Barton. She has been a member of the Niles varsity volleyball team for four years and team captain for two years. She is an active member of National Honor Society, tutors middle school students and is an active volunteer in her community. Barton also was the only student at Niles High to graduate from Lake Michigan College with an associate’s degree this spring. She will be attending Grand Valley State University to study athletic training and physical therapy in the fall.

3. Hannah Hill

Hill is the daughter of Jeff and Mary Hill. She has held the position of both president and vice president for Niles High School Student Council and has been an active member of Key Club and National Honor Society. She is a proud student athlete and is captain of her tennis team. She will be heading to Grand Valley in the fall to major in psychology.

4. Emileigh Middleton

Middleton is the daughter of Terry Middleton and Mindy Prince. She will be attending Sierra Nevada College to study psychology in the fall.

5. Morgan Altergott

Altergott is the daughter of Jeff and Beth Altergott. She is team captain for both the Niles varsity softball team and Bridgman co-op swim team. She is active in National Honor Society, Business Professionals of America and Berrien County Math and Science Center. She will be attending Concordia University to study actuarial science in the fall.

6. Amanda Chaffin

Chaffin is the daughter of Daniel and Jill Chaffin. She will be attending DePaul University to study business in the fall.

7. Chelsea Best

Best is the daughter of Ryan and Kelley Best. She has been a member of the varsity soccer team for four years, varsity cross-country team for three years and a captain of both of them for two years. She is also an active member of the National Honor Society. Best will be attending Grand Valley in the fall.

8. Allison Suckle

Suckle is the daughter of Jay and Carla Suckle. She is a member of the varsity dive team and varsity competitive cheer team. She has participated with National Honor Society and Student Council, both for two years. She has been a member of the Country Trailblazers 4-H Club for 12 years and is very active with community service around the fair grounds. She is proud to represent her community as the 2016 Miss Niles and will be attending University of Michigan’s College of Nursing in the fall.

9. Kiya Grosse

Grosse is the daughter of Jeffrey and Trenise Grosse. She is a member of Business Professionals of America and the varsity soccer team. She was also a member of the FIRST robotics competition team at Niles High School and attends the Berrien County Math and Science Center. She will be attending University of Michigan in the fall.

10. Jessica Akey

Akey is the daughter of Greg and Sherry Akey. She has been involved in National Honor Society, Viking Journal and the ambassador’s program at Niles New Tech. She has been on varsity tennis team for three years and varsity cross country for two years. She will be attending Southwestern Michigan College in the fall to pursue a career in cccupational therapy.
