MISHAWAKA — Niles finished second at the Caveman Classic, falling to host Mishawaka 9-0 in the championship game.
The Vikings (6-18) reached the title game by beating Fairfield 6-3 and Mishawaka Marian 4-2 Saturday.
Niles opened the tournament with a 6-0 loss to Mishawaka Friday night.
Sadie Fountain was 3-for-4 for the Vikings against Fairfield, while Brooke Timm and Tegan Bays both drove in two runs.
In the win over Marian, Addison Davies was 2-for-2 and Holly Walker was 2-for-3. Michelle Crouch drove in a pair of runs.
Timm picked up the win against Fairfield, while Crouch was the winning pitcher against Marian.
“This weekend we took some steps forward which we greatly needed,” Niles coach Rick McKeel said. “The girls played inspired ball this weekend and it translated to a couple of wins. When you don’t make mistakes and you put the ball in play it makes a world of difference. I was proud of our showing this weekend. We continue to struggle as a team hitting which we are trying to get fixed.”
