Making Change: A free course on financial fundamentals

Mondays and Thursdays, May 16 to June 6, 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Making Change is about taking control of your financial life.

Breakfast will be served to registered participants at 9:30 a.m. Making Change prepares people to make informed financial decisions, resolve debt issues and plan for the future. Register at changingthebalance.org or call (269) 683-8545 ext. 124.

 

Monday, May 9

• 10 a.m. to noon — Special Edition: Movie Day watching “Norm of the North”

Special Edition is a series of programs designed to be particularly accessible and engaging for adults and children with special needs. Anyone is welcome.

 

Tuesday, May 10

• 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. — The Connection (Emergency Shelter Services)

Apply for assistance when housing is threatened, or just stop in for referrals and information.

• 11:30 to 12:30 p.m. — Read Around the County

Bring a blanket and join us at the Riverfront Park Amphitheater to hear local “celebrities” reading stories.

• 6 to 6:30 p.m. — Chips and Chapters

Chips and Chapters is a fun, new read-aloud story time. Eat chips and follow along as Tara reads aloud from a chapter book each Tuesday.

• 6:30 p.m. — Pajama Storytime

Family storytime with crafts, songs, and coloring pages. Feel free to wear jammies.

• 6:30 p.m. — Fiction for Foodies

The tastiest book club you’ll ever attend — Fiction for Foodies is a potluck. Books are available at the information desk. This month we’ll be discussing “The Art of Racing in the Rain” by Garth Stein.

 

Wednesday, May 11

• Multiple times — Storytime day

Squealers (birth-18 months) at 9:30 a.m., Squigglers (18 months-3 years) at 10 and 11 a.m., Storytime (3-5 years) at 10:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.

 

Thursday, May 12

• 10:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. — Storytime

• 1 to 5 p.m. — Mahjong

Volunteers are available to teach newcomers how to play. Other board games are also available.

• 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. — Evening Special Edition: Game Night

• 6 to 7:30 p.m. — Teen Time

Teens get to choose the activity from a wide variety of options including video games, crafts and movies.

 

Friday, May 13

• 1 to 3 p.m. — Twisted Stitches

Bring yarn or a sewing project and enjoy a cup of coffee or tea while chatting and working. Rookies are welcome and there is a teacher and a few loaner tools to get people started.

• 1 and 4:30 p.m. — Tween Book Club

Kids ages 8 to 12, join in for snacks, great conversation and a book discussion on the second Friday of each month. This month is “Magnus Chase and the Gods of Asgard” by Rick Riordan.

• 5 p.m. — Horace J Edwards Book Talk

Author Bill Meyer will be here to do a book talk on his new middle-grade fantasy book, “The Secret of the Scarab Beetle: Horace J Edwards and the Time Keepers.” The book is set in Niles.

 

Saturday, May 14

• 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. — 3rd Annual Niles District Library Comic Con

Join the library for one of its biggest and most exciting events of the year. Comic Con is a fun, free to attend event for the whole family to enjoy.

• 10:30 a.m. — Toddler Dance Party

This musical program is aimed for toddlers to help strengthen the little brain and body muscles. We will use music to reinforce hand eye coordination, cross brain exercises, and tactile and sensory movements. This program is for ages 0-5.

• 1 p.m. — Jr. Garden Club

For children ages 6-12, Jr. Garden Club meets the second Saturday of every month at 1 p.m. Initial registration is required, call (269) 683-8545 ext. 106 to sign up.

This month’s topic is Soda Pop Carrots.
