STEVENSVILLE — To say the playing conditions were less than ideal Thursday would be a bit of an understatement.

Niles and Lakeshore played in the driving rain and sleet with the Lancers coming away with a 4-0 SMAC West Division victory over the Vikings.

The Lancers grabbed a 1-0 halftime advantage and then scored three goals in the final 40 minutes of play.

Scoring for Lakeshore were Joa Puckett, Natalie Stampfly, Sarah Dubbert and Kailey Yack.

Niles’ Ayvion James stopped 10 of the Lancer’s 14 shots on goal.

Dowagiac soccer

Dowagiac was unable to keep pace with the top team in the Wolverine Conference Wednesday.

A driving rain and frigid temperatures greeted the two teams, but the visiting Tigers were able to overcome the elements to post an 8-0 victory.

Allegan scored four goals in each half.

Dowagiac’s Grace Younger stopped 31 shots for the Chieftains, who will face Edwardsburg in another conference match Monday.

“We were overmatched in this game against the No. 1 team in the conference,” Dowagiac coach Ryan Haines said. “We just have to keep our heads up and get ready for Edwardsburg next Monday.”
