Jan. 26, 1938 — April 30, 2016

Dr. Yung Soo Choi, 78, residing in Granger, Indiana passed away at 4:37 a.m. Saturday, April 30, 2016, in his home. He was born Jan. 26, 1938 in Seoul, Korea to the late Hyun Dae and Soon Bok (Um) Choi.

Dr. Choi earned his medical degree from Seoul National University in Korea. He served his country as a medical officer in the Korean Army. On Feb. 12, 1966, in Korea, Dr. Choi married Sook Mie Ok, who survives. They moved to the United States from Korea in 1966 and began their medical careers. Dr. Choi was an anesthesiologist at Detroit Children’s Hospital and Holy Cross Hospital in Detroit, Michigan, then moved to Pawating Hospital in Niles, Michigan before working for Locum Tenens Staffing as a provider for various local medical facilities. He is a member of Korean Grace Baptist Church in Mishawaka.

In addition to his loving wife of 50 years, Dr. Choi is survived by two daughters, Debbie (Eric) Blumbergs of Beverly Hills, Michigan and Michelle Choi of Mishawaka; one son, Robert (Daphne) Choi of Singapore; and five grandchildren, Julia, Annaliese and Victoria Blumbergs and Ethan and Jake Choi. Additionally, he is survived by sisters, Hwa Soo Park of Maryland, Jung Soo Yang of California and Ji Yung Jin of Korea; and brothers, Jin Soo Choi and Nam Soo Choi, both of California.

Funeral services for Dr. Choi will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 10, 2016, in the Palmer Funeral Home – Hickey Chapel, 17131 Cleveland Road, South Bend. Pastors Hans Kim and Richard Stewart will officiate. Graveside services and burial will follow in St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park, 375 W Cleveland Road, Granger. Friends may visit with the family from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, May 9, 2016, in the funeral home.
