Athlete Showcase: Dowagiac’s Brenden Dudley

Brenden Dudley is a sophomore on the Dowagiac baseball team.
What has been one of your greatest accomplishments as an athlete?
BD: Being the only freshman on varsity.
What has been one of your biggest disappointments as an athlete?
BD: Letting my emotions get the best of me.
What has been a hardship in your life?
BD: Seeing my brother go through what he has gone through.
Who is a “hero” in your life and why?
BD: My brother Blake. He isn’t able to do the things I am so that motivates me to be that much better as a person and on the field.
When are you the most nervous while you are competing?
BD: Seconds before the start of the game.
Describe an embarrassing athletic moment.
BD: In ninth grade I was playing quarterback against St. Joe and nobody lined up over the wide receiver and I nodded at him and over threw him.
How do you tend to workout/train when by yourself?
BD: Go hit the batting cage in my back yard.
What other sport would you like to compete in if you were not playing yours?
BD: Basketball.
Why are sports an important part of a high school experience?
BD: Because you have the same chance everyone else has to get to the next level.
How would you give away $50,000?
BD: I would donate it to the Muscular Dystrophy Association because my brother has Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy.
If you could be the head coach of a team for a year, what team would you choose?
BD: Chicago Cubs.
If I did not play sports, I would…?
BD: I honestly don’t know. Sports have been a part of my life since I could pick up a ball.
What is the most challenging thing for you to do in your sport?
BD: Not beating myself up after an error.
If you could change one rule about your sport, what would it be?
BD: I would bring the neighborhood play back to baseball.
What is the best compliment you have ever received?
BD: When people compliment me on my work ethic.
What was the scariest thing you have had to do? Are you glad you did it?
BD: The ripcord at Michigan’s Adventure Park and yes I’m glad I did it.
What was the last thing you saw someone do that really impressed you?
BD: Dove into the stands to catch a pop up foul ball.
What is your favorite hobby? Why?
BD: I like hanging out with friends because it keeps me out of trouble.
