Athlete Showcase: Dowagiac’s Brenden Dudley

Brenden Dudley is a sophomore on the Dowagiac baseball team.

What has been one of your greatest accomplishments as an athlete?

BD: Being the only freshman on varsity.

What has been one of your biggest disappointments as an athlete?

BD: Letting my emotions get the best of me.

What has been a hardship in your life?

BD: Seeing my brother go through what he has gone through.

Who is a “hero” in your life and why?

BD: My brother Blake. He isn’t able to do the things I am so that motivates me to be that much better as a person and on the field.

When are you the most nervous while you are competing?

BD: Seconds before the start of the game.

Describe an embarrassing athletic moment.

BD: In ninth grade I was playing quarterback against St. Joe and nobody lined up over the wide receiver and I nodded at him and over threw him.

How do you tend to workout/train when by yourself?

BD: Go hit the batting cage in my back yard.

What other sport would you like to compete in if you were not playing yours?

BD: Basketball.

Why are sports an important part of a high school experience?

BD: Because you have the same chance everyone else has to get to the next level.

How would you give away $50,000?

BD: I would donate it to the Muscular Dystrophy Association because my brother has Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy.

If you could be the head coach of a team for a year, what team would you choose?

BD: Chicago Cubs.

If I did not play sports, I would…?

BD: I honestly don’t know. Sports have been a part of my life since I could pick up a ball.

What is the most challenging thing for you to do in your sport?

BD: Not beating myself up after an error.

If you could change one rule about your sport, what would it be?

BD: I would bring the neighborhood play back to baseball.

What is the best compliment you have ever received?

BD: When people compliment me on my work ethic.

What was the scariest thing you have had to do? Are you glad you did it?

BD: The ripcord at Michigan’s Adventure Park and yes I’m glad I did it.

What was the last thing you saw someone do that really impressed you?

BD: Dove into the stands to catch a pop up foul ball.

What is your favorite hobby? Why?

BD: I like hanging out with friends because it keeps me out of trouble.

Choose one word to describe yourself:

BD: Humbled.
