Dowagiac used 25 hits to score 20 runs in a sweep of Watervliet in non-conference baseball Tuesday.

The Chieftains had 13 hits in the opening game as it defeated the Panthers 10-1. Dowagiac had 12 hits in a 10-4 victory in the nightcap.

“Tonight the guys played well versus Watervliet,” Dowagiac coach Dan Schuchardt said. “We had quite a few hits (25) through two games and played solid defense with the exception of a few errors that didn’t cost us anything.”

Austin Jones had his first career home run and added a triple for the Chieftains, who also got a pair of doubles from Mack Charles.

Brenden Dudley picked up the victory in the opening game as he and Chance Wernlund scattered six hits.

Ellijah Williams and Mack Charles allowed eight hits in the second game.

“Brenden Dudley pitched very good game one and Ellijah Williams also pitched well game two,” Schuchardt said. “They deserved a pair of wins like this after losing many close games.”
